Nike LunarGlide+ 5 Review

Another lightweight, richly cushioned stability shoe. Another well-designed option for distance runners with medium arches. Not much changed from the Nike LunarGlide+ 4 to the LunarGlide+ 5 ̶ but it didn’t need to.

The previous version of this sleek, attractive shoe was made a ton lighter and more efficient, and the LunarGlide+ 5 upheld most of those popular adjustments. At $110, it’s a good ─ albeit not very durable ─ purchase that is capable of meeting the needs of both underpronators and normal pronators.

Subtle stability, obvious comfort
The Dynamic Support system works with an updated heel clip to provide support in all the right places and amounts, but without compromising the shoe’s elite Lunarlon cushioning. The designers seem to really understand that excessive support takes away from the overall user experience.

Soft, soft, soft. That’s what you hear from so many LunarGlide+ 5 wearers. But this shoe’s awesome comfort level doesn’t just come from underfoot. Thin, firm wires underneath the mesh upper criss-cross at midfoot and are connected to the shoelace eyelets. It’s a system that keeps the foot really snug but also enables easy, pain-free movement.

Pay more for longer life
The most consistent complaint about the LunarGlide+ 5 is its lack of durability, especially regarding traction. You’ll have to pay more for a different shoe to ensure a longer lifetime.

With its traditional setup and large heel-to-toe drop-off, it’s also not a particularly progressive setup for a stability shoe. But at 9.7 ounces for men and 8.1 for women, it does cater to many runners who seemingly want their shoes lighter and lighter every year.

If you’re willing to exchange durability for lightweight comfort and sleek design, and if you’re on a budget, the Nike LunarGlide+ 5 likely will be a great fit.
