The Mizuno Wave Creation 11 is a Neutral/Cushioned running shoe from Mizuno that is designed to work for heavier runners and does not have much pronotion control. If you are light or average weight, this shoe may be too much for you. The shoe is very durable, and it shows in the weight, the men’s shoe comes in at 12.9 ounces and the women’s shoe comes in at 10.4 ounces. Even though it comes in heavy compared to other shoes in the same Neutral/Cushioned category, Mizuno actually shaved nearly an ounce off of last year’s Mizuno Wave Creation to bring it more in line with others.

Specifically Designed for Heavier Runners

The Mizuno Wave Creation 11 is designed for heavier runners to provide the additional cushioning that a heavier runner needs. The more weight the runner has, the more impact the shoe has to absorb, and that can take additional amounts of foam and other structures in the heel crash pad and midsole. So this is the primary reason for the additional weight in the shoe.

The heel is firm to absorb that extra impact so that your knees and ankles don’t have to. It is actually nice to know that some shoes are designed for heavier runners, because when the running shoe companies design a shoe to fit a bunch of different types of runners, that makes it hard to find a shoe that fits your specific body type and running style.

Once you find that shoe that works for you, you don’t want the shoe company to change it just to try and appeal to a bigger market. Knowing that Mizuno is willing to make a shoe designed specifically for heavier runners would make me confident they will continue that trend. From reading many reviews, many people stick with the Creation line for years if it matches their running style.

The structures in the shoe involved in making the Mizuno Wave Creation 11 firm and durable enough for a heavier runner is from two plastic plates embedded into the midsole. The only complaint about the shoes that I have seen repeated more than once in reading lots of positive reviews on Runners World and Road Runner is that some people are saying that the heel plate wears out quickly.
