The latest edition in the Brooks Ghost series isn’t actually lighter than the previous version. But the new Ghost 6 FEELS lighter — which is just one of the things that has runners clamoring for it.
Of course, popularity isn’t a new concept for the Ghost designers. The Ghost 6 is the fourth consecutive shoe in the series to win the “Editor’s Choice” award from Runner’s World. It’s a tradition based largely on the “Ghost way” of elite cushioning and comfort.
Comfort from front to back
A big contributor to the Ghost 6’s elite comfort is the rearfoot and forefoot DNA gel. This magical fluid hardens and softens the perfect amount in response to each runner’s unique size and stride.
Also, the segmented Caterpillar Crash Pad and Omega Flex Grooves are back — working together to provide good flexibility and stride management.
In fact, the only thing about the sole that’s any different than the Ghost 5 is the removal of the midfoot shank, which means improved ground coverage and heel-to-toe transition. What’s more, they seem to have accomplished this feat without drastically affecting support.
Light enough, plenty affordable
The Brooks Ghost 6 is the exact weight as its predecessor: 10.7 ounces for men and 8.8 for women. It’s light enough, but certainly not one of the lightest neutral shoes on the market. Yet runners have been reporting that it feels lighter, and that’s what matters.
Then there are the little things — but important in their own right. Some runners adore the plush, nonslip tongue; the new no-sew overlays; the trendy color schemes; and the environment-friendly midsole material.
At $110, the price is plenty popular, too. Sure, some question this shoe’s durability. But at this price, and with its impressive reputation, the Brooks Ghost 6 is worth the investment.
