Once excellence is attained, consistency becomes a good thing. A very good thing. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 is a testament to the importance of maintaining high quality, as Runner’s World has now given the last two installments of this stability series the magazine’s Editor’s Choice Award.
Why does the GTS 14 receive so much adoration? It has the stability that medium-arched runners need; plenty of cushioning to set it apart from old-school versions; and the type of lightness, technological advancements and gender-specific features that modern-day runners increasingly expect.
Stability, softness can coexist
A rollbar from the heel through the forefoot and a plastic midfoot work within the shoe’s overall framework to control excessive pronation and foster optimal balance.
Even amid the Adrenaline GTS 14’s high-end stability, the shoe provides ample cushioning from front to back. A special gel changes – becoming more or less firm – in response to each runner’s body makeup and underfoot environment. Also, the comfortable, resilient midsole is very biodegradable.
Within the world of stability shoes, which are expected to provide heavy-duty support, the GTS 14 is light enough to keep the 2014 runner happy. At 11.3 ounces for men and 9.4 for women, it’s the same weight as the GTS 13.
3D printing technology gave Brooks designers the ability to meld traditional stitching in the GTS 14 upper with new-sew overlays for a stylish, really secure fit.
The updated sole is a finely tuned combination of flex grooves, a segmented crash pad and blanket, flat-as-can-be traction. It all works together to afford runners an exceptional gait cycle.
The price tag of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14 increased by $10. But for one of the most complete stability shoes on the market, $120 is a great deal.
