Brooks Defyance 2 running shoes
This post on Brooks Defyance 2 running shoes is part of our research on Brooks neutral running shoes.
This shoe had a price increase to $100 over last year’s model and will have 3 widths available narrow, mediums and wides for both genders. Much milder color from original which turned some people away from what is a good shoe. Heel area was decoupled further to improve heel strike cushion and release. Increased flex grooves in forefoot. Reduced met window sizes in upper to achieve a closer fit.
A reduced met window refers to the size of the area of mesh at the met head, think about a bunion and where it is located, imagine either a large or a smaller area of mesh to allow for the enlarged bone in this area.
Brooks Defyance shoe is a neutral shoe that is somewhat firm unlike Vomero or nimbus which is squishy soft. The arch is not prominent but you should try them on at a store.
The most significant difference between the Defyance and Radius is that the Radius has a Medial Arch Pod (a subtle way of correcting over-pronation) that will not be found on the Defyance model. And, yes, removing the PDRB from the Adrenaline would soften the shoe.
Runner’s World awarded the Brooks Defyance its “Editor’s Choice” award in its Summer 2008 Shoe Review. Here is a video review on the Brooks Defyance 2 from Runners World:
