Editor’s choice again, no surprise for the Asics GT-2160 stability running shoe and its award winning heritage, this time bringing in the Runners World 2010 Winter editor’s choice award. Last year’s Asics GT-2150 also won editor’s choice, but you will notice a definite different in this version of the shoe, improving on several of the weaknesses that runners found with the 2150.
Improvements
The Asics GT-2160 changed a bit from the 2150, almost reverting back to a fit closer to the 2140, which is a good thing. Lots of people that had problems with the bigger toe box of the 2150 were delighted to see that the 2160 has narrowed the toe box, closer to the toe box on the 2140, which helps in preventing the forefoot from shifting around. I would recommend if you are currently in a pair of 2140’s and very happy with those shoes, that you skip over the 2150’s and go right to the 2160’s.
Many who had a chance to wear the 2150’s and the 2160’s are also saying that the cushioning and responsiveness has improved, which also contributed to making the 2150 feel quite a bit different.
Asics GT-2160 Features
The GT-2160 has an almost identical weight as last year’s shoe, increasing only 0.1 ounces to 11.5 oz for men, and 9.6 oz for women.
With lots of Asics running shoes coming out with asymmetrical lacing, you might expect the Asics GT 21xx line to follow the same road someday, but that day is not here yet. The Asics GT-2160 has good old straight lacing, which I also prefer myself.
If you have a narrow heel, you will find the Asics GT-2160 to work well for you as reported by several runners. If the standard width shoe has a heel that still doesn’t work, be glad to know that the GT-2160 also has narrow sizing options.

Recommended for…
I would recommend the Asics GT-2160 for runners looking for a long lasting stability shoe, especially if you were turned off from the 2100 series because of last year’s Asics GT-2150. Lots of others have given the 2160’s a shot and have not been disappointed.
