Asics GT-2150 Review

Winner of the Runners World Editors Choice in the Winter 2009 shoe guide, the Asics GT-2150 is one of the best Stability shoes out there. The Asics GT-2140 also won editors choice, so for the GT-2150 to be chosen was no surprise. The GT-2150 is a lighter shoe in the Stability category of Asics running shoes compared to the Asics Gel Kayano 16. The Asics GT-2150 comes in at a weight of men: 11.6 oz and women: 9.5 oz. This is around a half of an ounce lighter than the GT-2140. But don’t let the lighter weight fool you, there is still plenty of cushioning on this shoe, and in fact there is some additional heel foam added to the GT-2150.

Comparison to the GT-2140

Some adjustments to the Asics GT-2150 involved changing the upper to lock down the heel more securely, and some forefoot overlays were repositioned to create a softer feel.

The heel collar height has been reduced a little bit, which reduces any excess pressue on the ankle and saves some weight in the process. This seems to be a trend with the latest Asics shoes, as the Asics Gel Nimbus 12 and the Asics Gel Kayano 16 both have a reduction in the heel collar height from their previous models.

Also, the insoles appeared to have changed a little bit. A few runners who have tried out the Asics GT-2150 are saying that the insoles have been causing heel blisters. This is coming from both people who have run in the previous version of the shoe, or people switching to the GT-2150 from some other Stability running shoe. Changing the insole out seems to have been a remedy for most runners who had the problem, but it is still something to keep an eye on as you break the shoe in.

Other notable features

The heel in the Asics GT-2150 contains a generous amount of memory foam that allows the shoe to form to your heel once you lace up. The sock liner itself is Asics ComforDry Sockliner that has anti-microbial properties to keep your foot drier and healthier (and hopefully less stinky too).

One of the reasons that the Asics GT-2150 is lighter than other Asics shoes is that the midsole material is made of Solyte, which is a different lighter material than the standard EVA and SpEVA foam.

I would recommend the Asics GT-2150 as a supportive high-mileage shoe for normal arched runners that do not overpronate severely. If you are a heavier runner but still need a Stability shoe, I would instead recommend the Asics Gel Kayano 16 for you.
