The Asics Gel Nimbus 12 is the top of the line and best selling neutral/cushioned running shoe that Asics offers. Not only is it one of the most popular shoes that Asics offers, it was also awarded the Best Update from Runners World in the Summer 2010 Shoe Guide. The launch date for the Nimbus 12 was April 1, 2010.

Offset Lacing Design

The Asics Gel Nimbus 12 has the same offset lacing seen on many of the newer Asics shoes, which some people still continue to have a “love it” or “hate it” response. The offset lacing results in the laces rolling towards the inside of your foot, and is designed to make it easier to lock your foot over the instep and provide additional stability. From responses on Runners World forums, it seems like most people are pleased with the offset lacing on the Nimbus 12.

Something Asics has also become known for is the heel support with memory foam that allows the heel fit to form to your unique foot type. If you have tried some Asics running shoes on, you know what I mean.

Updates and New Features

The Asics Gel Nimbus 12 has also gone through updating that is allowing it to be accomodating to more and more running types as they added additional cushioning and a wider base that provides a bit more stability. So if you find yourself on the borderline when trying to choose a neutral/cushioned or a stability shoe, even though the Nimbus 12 is classified as a Neutral/Cushioned shoe, it may become an option for you to try.

New features for the Nimbus 12 include the IGS (Impact Guidance System), which has a guidance line from the rear to the front of the shoe to help with an efficient gait all the way through the run. Another update is what Asics is calling “Discrete Eyelets” in the Upper, which is synthetic reinforcement for better pull when lacing up and allowing better forming to the foot, allowing the shoe to better adapt to different foot shapes.

The weight of the men’s version of the Nimbus 12 is 11.9 oz, and the women’s version comes in at 9.8 oz, which are both reductions from the Nimbus 11.

A specific change to the womens version is an added 3mm heel height to reduce achilles stress, which is similar to what was done with the Kayano 16.

I would recommended the Asics Gel Nimbus 12 for runners with normal to high arches looking for a neutral/cushioned shoe with a bit of added stability.
