The Asics Gel Kayano 16 is in the Stability category of running shoes, and comes with a good history of well designed shoes, as the Asics Gel Kayano 15 won the Editors Choice in the Spring 2009 Runners World shoe guide. The Asics Gel Kayano 16 is known for being well cushioned that includes a ton of Gel, and its very supportive landing pad for the foot. All this cushioning and support does come at the cost of weight of the shoe, which is one of the heavier shoes out there. The weight of the shoe comes in at men: 12.7 oz and women: 10.5 oz.
Offset lacing system adjustments
The Asics Gel Kayano 16, just like the Kayano 15 and Nimbus 11 from last year, come with the offset lacing system. Runners World reviewers had mixed opinions about the offset lacing system, some thought it worked great, locking the foot over the instep like the offset lacing system is designed to. Others had issues with the offset lacing system pushing their foot towards the back of the shoe more, but too much, causing heel and achilles soreness. However, one update in the Asics Kayano 16 regarding the heel is a slightly lower heel collar, which may fit a little differently than it did with the Kayano 15. I suspect that this might have had more of an effect on the heel/achilles soreness that some reviewers might be attributing to the offset lacing system.
Toe box improvements
Along with slight redesign of the asymmetrical lacing system from last year, some material has been removed from the end of the lacing system, which gives the feeling of a bigger toe box. Also, the forefoot has overlays removed from the top, which also contributes to the toe box feeling bigger and more flexible on this running shoe.
Guidance Line
Just like the Asics Gel Nimbus 12, the Asics Gel Kayano 16 contains a new feature, what Asics is calling a Guidance Line. This is a groove on the bottom of the running shoe that has a purpose of helping to guide your foot through the natural running gait from heel strike to toe-off.
The Asics Gel Kayano 16 is the top of the line Stability shoe in the Asics running shoes lineup, and the Asics Kayano line of shoes is always one of the most popular shoes that they offer. I would recommend the shoe if you are looking for a stable, well-cushioned everyday running shoe. If you are a heavier runner and do not overpronate too badly, because of the generous amount of cushioning, this shoe will be able to give you an easy ride for many miles.

I have been running in Kayano 16s for about a month now and couldn’t be happier with how they are performing.
The lacing takes a bit of getting used to as when you are running you feel like your feet are at an angle sometimes when you catch them out of the corner of your eye, but after a few runs you get used to it!

Good shoes, as a heavier runner they offer an excellent amount of cushioning one complaint is the amount of blisters I seem to be b getting early on compared to other asics shoes I’ve tried I’ve the years.
